Communication skills and language
are vital to a child’s development. Proper communication gives children the
ability to learn more from their immediate environment and engage in
socialization. When speech pathologists talk about communication skills in a
child, they are talking about both language and speech. Language is the
utilization of shared rules for the purposes of putting words together in order
to express feelings and thoughts. Speech on the other hand is a verbal way of
communication. Children also need to have a proper understanding of what
language means through both written and spoken communication and this is why
early language stimulation (stimulation du langage) is always recommended to
encourage children to use their language.
